Arusha is the third  largest town in Tanzania, with a population of approximately 400,000. Situated at the foot of Mount Meru, it is an important center of activity in Northern Tanzania. On the one hand, it is a developed city that draws thousands of international tourists and businesses to the region each year. On the other hand, it is the site of overcrowded slums and desperation.

The Arusha region is primarily agricultural and most people make a living as subsistence farmers. But it is one of the poorest regions in one of the world’s poorest countries, with very high levels of poverty and tough living conditions. Children are severely affected, and many of them take to the streets to try and make some money.

The Happy Childhood Village in Tanzania will be built near the small town of Kisongo, about 30 minutes by car from the city of Arusha.
