23 August 2018: Saudi Arabia is in the midst of diversifying its current economic situation from dependence on oil production towards a range of industries, including hospitality and tourism, which will enable it to compete as a globally positioned knowledge-based economy. Saudi citizens are receiving more and more quality education which empowers, as part of the Kingdom’s ambition, to achieve long-term economic goals. Education through vocational programmes is therefore one part of the solution.

Given the background, the University of Prince Mugrin (UPM) has signed a strategic agreement with Lausanne Hospitality Consulting (LHC) to establish Lausanne Hotel & Restaurant Training Centre (LHRTC) centres throughout Saudi Arabia. The Lausanne Hotel & Restaurant Training Centre delivers hands-on vocational skills to students in the hotel & restaurant domain through several courses. The course content provided to students is inspired from the Swiss benchmark vocational competency framework for the hospitality industry. Through its collaboration with LHC, UPM will offer vocational courses at certificate and Diploma level in Kitchen, Food & Beverage service, Rooms division and Hotel Administration.

As part of UPM’s continual efforts to provide students with knowledge and skills to position them as future leaders in respective domains, this collaboration will impart students with trade skills and enable future graduates to be effective from day one upon graduation. Simultaneously, students will naturally find themselves immersed in the Swiss values of quality, diligence & respect; all three of which are deeply embedded in the curriculum.
